60 years ago, the first Faculty of Arts and Graphics in Ukraine was opened within the walls of Odesa State Pedagogical Institute named after K. D. Ushynsky.

With the establishment of the Faculty, the first dean and head of the department of drawing was Valery Arutyunovych Hehomian – a famous artist-painter and experienced teacher.

The teaching staff of the Faculty (V. Hehomian, V. Korzh, V. Kalimov, L. Lubarska, V. Filipenko, R. Yakhenko) began scientific and methodological work, organized the process of training future teachers. Thus, higher arts and pedagogical education was initiated in Ukraine.

Highly professional artists were involved in teaching activities, in particular, People's Artist of Ukraine P. Zlochevski, Chairman of the Board of the Odesa Branch of the Union of Artists of Ukraine A. Rusin, and later - M. Pavliuk. Graduates of the Kyiv Art Institute and other art universities of the country were invited to teach.

During its existence, the Faculty has trained more than 3,500 teachers of fine and applied arts, drawing, and artistic work.

Studentsof the Faculty participate in regional, all-Ukrainian and international exhibitions of student creativity, gain knowledge and master additional specializations, professionally prepare themselves for future life activities, that is, they receive a high level of ability to be competitive in the modern artistic and educational space.

Most of the graduates of the Faculty were able to realize their creative and scientific potential, becoming outstanding artists of fine and decorative and applied arts, members of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine and Honored Artists of Ukraine, Honored Artists of Ukraine, Candidates and Doctors of Sciences.

The educational process at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Graphics is provided by highly experienced teachers, including 4 professors, 9 Candidates of Sciences, Honored Artists of Ukraine, 15 members of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, who work fruitfully at the departments of fine arts, theory and methods of decorative and applied arts and graphics, technological and professional education.

Students and teachers of secondary schools of Ukraine study and work according to the author's programs and textbooks on fine arts compiled by the Faculty's teachers.

The Faculty of Art and Graphics trains specialists in the following specialties:

014 Secondary Education (Art. Fine Arts) (Bachelor);

015 Professional Education (Design) (Bachelor);

023 Fine Arts, Decorative Arts, Restoration (Bachelor and Master);

022 Fashion Design (Bachelor).

 

 

The curricula offer applicants the opportunity to study the entire basic set of subjects of the humanitarian and socio-economic cycle of higher education.

 

Also, during their studies, the applicant acquires knowledge of pedagogy, psychology and teaching methods of artistic disciplines.

 

However, special attention is paid to the study of the main disciplines - Theory and Practice of Drawing, Theory and Practice of Painting, Theory and Practice of Composition, History and Theory of Arts, Decorative and Applied Arts, and others.

At their discretion, students choose elective subjects, in particular, specialized courses in fine and decorative arts, such as workshops in watercolor, soft materials in drawing, philosophy of art, cultural studies, acrylic painting, monumental painting, icon painting, printing art, design, etc.

The list of elective subjects is updated each year in accordance with the needs and wishes of applicants.

Graduates of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Graphics can work as teachers of fine and decorative and applied arts, ethics and aesthetics in secondary education institutions, art colleges, lead art clubs, work in children's art schools and art schools, and after completing their master's degree, work as teachers in institutions of professional pre-higher and higher education.

If they wish to continue their education, graduates of the faculty are invited to complete postgraduate studies at Ushynsky University to obtain the educational and scientific degree of "Doctor of Philosophy".

In addition, the training of students, supported by a state diploma, provides an opportunity to realize their creative potential in the field of advertising, marketing, graphic design, artistic design of printed publications, design of WEB sites, computer two- and three-dimensional graphics, clothing design, furniture, interior, landscape design.

The pedagogical direction of education does not exclude, but on the contrary encourages students and graduates of the faculty to personal and collective creative activity in the field of fine and decorative and applied arts.

On the initiative of teachers and students of the Faculty, creative art exhibitions are constantly organized at the Faculty, city, regional, regional and international levels.

Students are given the opportunity to hold personal exhibitions.

The Faculty of Arts and Graphics is located within the walls of an old noble estate in the quiet city center on the corner of Staroportofrankivska and Paster streets. From the first steps along its corridors, decorated with the works of students and teachers, you can feel the exquisite atmosphere of creativity and art.

 

In addition to its own library, specialized classrooms and workshops for theoretical and practical classes, it has a large courtyard for plein air classes (painting in the open air), which best corresponds to the Odesa tradition of painting.

The Faculty has been introduced and effectively operates student self-government. All issues related to studies, everyday needs and leisure of students, which include accommodation in a dormitory, granting scholarships, transferring from a contract form of education to a budget form, holding creative exhibitions and competitions, and awarding the most active students, are resolved with the direct participation of the student council.
