On September 10, 2026, the "CHESNO.Fest" academic integrity festival launched at Ushynsky University, aiming to unite students, researchers, and faculty around the principles of honest learning, responsible research, and academic culture.
The festival’s inaugural event was a lecture-workshop titled "From Source to Qualification Paper: The Master’s Student and Integrity," designed primarily for first-year master's students as well as anyone wishing to deepen their understanding of academic integrity.
Over 100 master's students from various specialties, faculties, and institutes of Ushynsky University participated in the event, demonstrating the keen interest young people have in the quality and responsible execution of academic and research work.
The festival speakers included:
Ganna Muzychenko, Vice-Rector for Research;
Olena Soloveichuk, Head of the Academic Integrity Promotion Group;
Natalia Kerdivar, Head of the Educational and Research Service;
Yevheniia Radieva, Head of the Scientific Society of Students, Postgraduate Students, Doctoral Candidates, and Young Scientists.
During the lecture-workshop, participants explored the main provisions of the new Law of Ukraine "On Academic Integrity" and discussed the key principles of the "Ushynsky University Integrity Policy," along with their practical application during studies and the preparation of qualification papers. Particular attention was paid to structuring academic work—from sourcing materials to formulating one’s own conclusions—as well as verifying the reliability and academic value of information, correctly formatting citations and bibliographies, and quoting or paraphrasing materials without violating principles of academic integrity.
A key part of the meeting was the discussion on the ethical use of artificial intelligence. Participants addressed the limits of acceptable AI assistance, the author's responsibility for the work's content, the necessity of verifying AI-generated information, and the importance of transparently declaring the use of digital tools.
The lecture-workshop served not only as an information session but also as a forum for asking questions and discussing practical scenarios. It fostered an understanding that academic integrity goes far beyond mere plagiarism checks; it entails taking responsibility for one's own work, respecting authorship, maintaining honesty in research, and being prepared to defend one's work with well-reasoned arguments.
