Archaeological internship of students of the Faculty of History and Philology has ended

It took place in the village of Orlivka, Reni community, Izmail district, Odesa region, under the leadership of Ihor Viktorovych Bruyak, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of World History, and Vladyslav Ihorovych Vodko, Doctor of Philosophy, Lecturer of the Department of History of Ukraine.

During the internship, the students explored an ancient monument - Kartal. Due to its location near the narrowest place on the Danube in this region, it has long attracted travelers and settlers. During the excavations, the young historians found fine export Roman ceramics, fragments of Greek amphorae, as well as economic pits from the Eneolithic and Bronze Age, which contained many interesting artifacts. In particular, a high-quality processed bone needle and many ornamented dishes were discovered. In addition, the students mastered the methodology of archaeological excavations, basic processing and recording of finds.

On weekends, the interns visited nearby landmarks. The first week saw an excursion to the city of Reni, where the director of the local history museum, Galina Vasylivna Marataeva, introduced the guests to archaeological and ethnographic exhibits that reflect the life and way of life of these lands over the past millennia. Later, the students visited Izmail, where they walked around the city center and the remains of the ramparts of an ancient fortress. In particular, the oldest surviving mosque in the unoccupied territory of modern Ukraine is located there.

In the second week of the internship, students and teachers went to Bolhrad. They walked around its cozy center, admired the picturesque architecture, as well as the Transfiguration Cathedral, which is the pearl of the city and amazes with its luxury and scale. The excursion to the museum in Kotlovyna, a Gagauz village, was also extremely interesting: Nina Ivanivna Deineka demonstrated wonderful ethnographic and paleontological exhibits that greatly interested the excursionists.

We thank the wonderful Bessarabian region for the hospitality! And the students are leaving for their vacation satisfied and full of impressions!
